Magazín Rolling Stone zveřejnil čtyřicet přelomových alb pop music

Do výběru, který sestavili redaktoři časopisu v pořadí od nejnovějšího po nejstarší, se dostaly mimo jiné kolekce The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Raye Charlese, Boba Dylana, Black Sabbath, Marvina Gaye, Michaela Jacksona, Nirvany či Kanye West. The Beatles přitom mají v seznamu dvě alba – Rubber Soul (1965) a Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967).
Nejstarší nahrávkou je Dust Bowl Ballads z roku 1940 od amerického písničkáře Woodyho Guthrieho, nejnovější pak 808s & Heartbreak (2008) amerického rappera a producenta Kanyeho Westa.
Z alb, která vznikla po roce 2000, se editoři Rolling Stone rozhodli vybrat kromě 808s & Heartbreak ještě In Rainbows (2007) od britských Radiohead. Z 90. let jsou to s kolekcemi The Chronic od Dr. Dre a Nevermind (1991) od Nirvany ještě kompilace Artificial Intelligence (1992), na které se podílelo více interpretů, a debut zpěvačky Mary J. Blige s názvem What’s The 411? (1992).
